Hegarty on Creativity
Hegarty on Creativity is a book by John Hegarty which was published in 2014. I originally decided to buy this book as I wanted to improve on my creativity and hopefully will encourage me to be more creative with my course and with everything in general.
It begins by saying that “creativity touches all of our lives in a thousand different ways, from the clothes we buy to the building we live in, from the food we eat to the cars we drive. Creativity invents, perfects, and defines our world.” (Pg.10) We are basically surrounded by creativity without even realising.
Nothing is original, the things we create are based on something that has happened before. The ideas we form are the building blocks of creativity and ideas can come from anywhere. People are very much inspired by what somebody else is doing and they will add their own flair to it. For example, Apple created AirPods, then suddenly Samsung created Galaxy Buds and I've seen influencers on social media advertising AirBuds. They all do the same thing but each company has added their own uniqueness to them.
Whilst being creative, we have to have fun and if you don't enjoy what you do, you will never be great at it. Being creative is a mixture of emotions, there are highs and lows, and being in a creative career puts you in a privileged position. It creates a legacy for others to follow and build on.
