Saweetie x PLT

Saweetie, who is an American Rapper, Singer and Songwriter collaborated with Pretty Little Thing and created her own collection with the brand. PrettyLittleThing also hosted a runway show in the New York fashion week in September which showcased Saweetie’s collection.

The layout was very pink and was filled with flowers on both sides of the runway. It very much resembled PrettyLittleThing’s theme. Celebrities such as Lil Kim, Quavo, Ashanti and Saweetie herself performed at the fashion show. What I liked about the fashion show was the diversity of models. Their models were all not the same skin tone or body types. With some of their pieces, they would have two models showcasing the same piece - one petite and the other is plus size. I found this amazing as it gave an idea on how the clothing would look on two different body shapes and did not fit into the old fashioned way of runway where all the models had to be a particular body type.

When it came to the celebrity performances, I wasn’t a big fan of Lil Kim’s performance. In my opinion, she looked really bored and got a little restless. Ashanti’s was one of my favourites. She performed some throwback hits as well as current songs and I could really see the crowd engaging with her. Quavo’s performance was short and sweet and I loved how he congratulated Saweetie on her hard work.

Overall, I really enjoyed the fashion show. I thought it was quite inspiring. Seeing that she is a rapper venturing into other things such as fashion and having her own collection with PLT just shows that you don’t have to limit yourself to only one thing. I do feel like the fashion industry is opening up to diversity and accepting that everyone is different. They are finally getting to grips that are no ‘one size fits all’ type of beauty.
