What I love about The Body Shop
Prior to university, I was heavily involved in the beauty industry and worked for The Body Shop for 8 months. What I love about the company is their use of natural ingredients in their products. I am always looking for products that are natural and cruelty-free as they work best for my skin. The company are always doing new things to change the environment in a positive way.
One example is they are helping to cut down on plastic. Their blog mentions different statistics of how much plastic that has been recycled between 2017-2018 in different regions of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The North of England sent over 81,000 tonnes of plastic waste to be recycled between April 2017- March 2018.
London contributed 11% to the UK’s plastic recycling efforts in 2017. This equates to 63,969 tonnes of plastic.
The South East and South West sent over 116,333 tonnes of plastic which is equivalent to 19% of the total amount of plastic waste recycled across the UK.
The Body Shop’s way of contributing to the positives to the environment is having a recycling bin in each of their stores. They have a scheme where you bring in empty Body Shop branded bottles and pots to the store which then gets put in their recycling bin. Once filled, their recycling partner TerraCycle collects it to be recycled and reused into new items.
I find it amazing that they are using their platform to inspire people for the better. What makes it even more inspiring is they are leading by example in hopes for people to follow.
